After being known as on of Aaron Hernandez’s mentors during his college career that Florida, Urban Meyer was initially hesitant to speaking on the matter. While it is perfectly understandable, people were beginning to question Meyer’s ability to mold players and even brought up questions of his character.
However, the former Gators coach has finally decided to break his silence. Via the Columbus Dispatch, Meyers wanted to clear the air:
“Relating or blaming these serious charges to theUniversityofFlorida, myself or our staff is wrong and irresponsible.”
As mentioned before, these comments were provoked after Meyer and his staff were under fire, Meyer elaborated:
“I just received an email from a friend where there is an accusation of multiple failed drug tests by Hernandez covered up byUniversityofFloridaor the coaching staff. This is absolutely not true,” Meyer texted. “Hernandez was held to the same drug testing policy as every other player.”
My personal take is that no one knows what did or did not happen at Florida. But for anyone that thinks that Meyer could have predicted Hernandez would perform such a heinous crime such as murder, is an idiot. There are so many players that have problems and they very rarely turn out to do something that Hernandez is accused of doing.
