Alex Rodriguez is the most covered athlete in New York Sports Media. From hitting on a girl during a playoff game to more steroid allegations, A-Roid….err…A-Rod can not stay out of the headlines.
Despite this, the most recent controversy around A-Rod is mostly due to someone else, and not his own actions. The source of this incident was a pretty innocent tweet from Rodriguez:
While most would consider this great news, Brian Cashman does not think so. Well, just in the sense that this is according to A-Rod’s personal doctor and not the team’s. Also, he was not happy that this was not released through the Yankees, but through his twitter. While this part makes sense, what does not is how Cashman announced his displeasure for these incidents.
“You know what, when the Yankees want to announce something, [we will],”Cashman told Andrew Marchand of ESPN New York. “Alex should just shut the f— up. That’s it. I’m going to call Alex now.”
Yes, that is the General Manager of the Yankees. Look, I understand the anger, but to publicly say something like that is out of line. It creates unnecessary controversy. It would make much more sense to say something to the tune of “That has not been cleared with the team doctor and there will be an official announcement regarding his return to baseball activities in the near future.” Then you can call A-Rod, and curse at him all you want.
