Despite what the anonymous Jets players have reportedly said to writers, who receive their pay based on the views the drag in, Jets pro-bowl center, Nick Mangold, stands by Sanchez. While Mark Sanchez has struggled mightily the past few seasons, Nick Mangold believe Sanchez gives the New York Jets the best chance to win. He claims that this the opinion of the team as well.

“I haven’t walked around with a pen and paper and taken a poll, but from the feeling I get, the locker room wants to win. Whoever gives us the best chance to do that, we want out there — and at this point, Mark gives us that best chance,” Mangold told the New York Post.

Rookie Geno Smith and Mark Sanchez are battling for the starting QB position on the New York Jets.

In regards to rookie Geno Smith who was taken in the second round from West Virginia, Mangold replied, “I think he’s handled it well, he’s had his growing pains, but you keep working through those and try to learn from the mistakes and keep getting better,” he said.

While some may take it as a slant towards Smith, I do not. Sanchez has been the starter for the past four seasons and has created a lot of strong relationships with his teammates. Couple that with the fact that Smith has no NFL experience and Sanchez does, it is understandable that he believes Sanchez is the best, at this point.

As a Jets fan, my hope is to have Sanchez start and, if necessary  have Smith develop and take over as some point in the season.
