Manny Ramirez is one of the best sluggers of all time, and near the tops of his generation. Another thing he was good at? Causing controversy. While this is not the reason for him leaving his team in Taiwan, it is a factor in MLB teams deciding not to bring him back.
He was hitting .354, with 43 RBIs and eight home runs in 49 games. This put him near the top of the leader boards for each of these categories. Officially, he left the team because he wanted to be closer to his family. While this can be true, there are rumblings that Japanese franchises have interest in bringing him. In Japan, the competition, money, and fan base is much larger.
The EDA Rhinos did give him raises and were disappointed in his decision to leave. The team released this statement: e regret [Ramirez’s] decision to leave Taiwan, but we would also like to wish him all the best for what he has brought to us and to the prosperity for baseball in Taiwan”.
Whatever he does, I will bet my life savings that he does not play another game in the MLB.
