This series has been projected by many to go the full distance, and thus far, the Spurs and Heat are holding true to these predictions. After defeating the Heat in a close battle (closed out by Tony Parker : NBA Finals: Tony Parker Puts The Nail In The Coffin), the Heat returned the favor and then some.
While the Heat did not force many turnovers in game 1, they forced the Spurs into turning over the ball 16 times as opposed to 4 in the first part of the series. Another key was that Tony Parker was held to 14 points on 5-14 shooting, Duncan held to 9 points, and Ginobli scored 5 points.
An interesting note is that the Heat won despite the struggles of the King, who was 7-17 with 17 points. Prior to the game many were calling on Lebron to become more like the “Cleveland Lebron”, and take over the game as his supporting cast provided very limited offensive assistance. In this game, the Heat had 5 players in double figures, along with two players who scored 9. Chalmers had 19 points to lead all scorers, but again, the key player of the game was Lebron.
His 7 assists contributed to the offensive flow and the amount of players who scored for the Heat. Another huge contribution where the devastating momentum shifting blocks against Duncan and Tiago Splitter seen here: Lebron James Blocks Duncan Lebron James Violates Tiago Splitter
This was an extremely important games as the Heat now go on the road for three straight beginning on Tuesday. Had they lost this game tonight, it very well could have been series clincher.
